Car Confectionery Ranked
Sweet are a must-have for any road trip. But should you go classic and crack open a bag of Werther’s Originals? Or should you treat your passengers to beloved Percy Pigs? In this journey through car confectionary, we explore the very best, and very worst, of driving sweets to take on your next trip.
God Tier
The crème de la crème of car confectionery wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from M&S’s nationwide favourite, Percy Pigs. Accompanying our flavoursome friend in top spot are the beloved Werther’s Originals and the sadly discontinued Strawberry Campinos, both of which go back 50 years.
Great Tier
Our next tier comprises some truly great sweets that can make a long journey fly by. Jelly Babies are thought to have been manufactured as far back as the 1800s, while their even more fruity friend, Starburst (previously known as Opal Fruits) is an old favourite here in the UK. And for those who want a bit more zing from their sweets, Haribo’s Tangfastics certainly do the job.
OK Tier
The next tier wouldn’t be our first choice in the car, but we guess that we wouldn’t say no either. Mint lovers will be glad to see that both TicTacs and Fox’s Glacier Mints make an appearance on this list, with Fox’s boasting over 100 years of minty freshness. Wine gums have always been an unquestioned staple of car journeys – but are they really that good?
Failed with Advisories Tier
Filling the jars of traditional sweet shops, liquorice is one of those love them or hate them sweets. No prizes for guessing where we sit on that debate! Another classic offering, Dolly Mixture is not bad but is now overshadowed by more exciting modern sweets. And if anyone who is not experiencing a nasty cold opts to eat a Fisherman’s Friend by choice, then we have some serious questions…
